Data Breach of 815 Million People’s PII
The extensive personal data of over 815 million individuals in India has purportedly been compromised and made available on the internet. Hackers have allegedly put up for sale a vast array of personally identifiable information (PII), encompassing details from Aadhaar identity cards, which are critical identity documents in India. A hacker, operating under the pseudonym “pwn0001,” claimed responsibility for this massive data breach, announcing on the notorious Breach Forums, a platform known for black hat hacking activities, that they possess an extensive database. This database reportedly includes sensitive information such as Aadhaar and passport details, full names, contact numbers, and residential addresses of hundreds of millions of Indian citizens, thereby raising serious concerns about privacy and security.
